I’m Mike Ratcliffe.

I am a BAFTA winning Series Producer, Director and Edit Producer. Whatever my job title, and whether it’s long form broadcast or short form commercial, I love telling stories.

Rockliffe Pictures came about when I wrote some music for a film I was producing. The broadcaster’s policy was that I couldn’t be credited twice - so Mick Rockliffe, my alter-ego was born, as was Rockliffe Pictures.

Today, I leave the music to the real talent. And I stick to producing and directing!

I love working collaboratively to reach a clear and definable vision for every project. And taking those projects forward I have worked in small teams of just a few, right up to bigger teams with 50 or more people on location.

I work to budget and have made films from a few thousand pounds to over a million per episode. Whilst big budgets might get more kit, fancier graphics, and big name presenters I believe there is still no substitute for great ideas and a lateral thinking approach, regardless of budget.

I work with talent, both seasoned and fresh, from the likes of Kevin McCloud to Tinie Tempah, Fred Sirieix to Jennifer Saunders. As such I enjoy writing to character sometimes with a lightness of touch and sense of humour, other times upping the anti to heighten drama and intensity.

I edit (basic Avid) and edit produce to seamlessly integrate all storytelling elements - from voiceover to music, graphics and effects.I often produce rough cuts and assemblies so many of the main editorial decisions can be made prior to an editor coming on board.

I shoot (FX6 / FX9 / FS7).

I have 25 years experience in several different genres of TV.
